They perform general evaluation for patients with undiagnosed eye problems and screenings for common eye diseases for both adults & children.
From treating common eye infections such as conjunctivitis to performing all forms of simple and complex retinal surgeries, at Felix Hospital, we provide a full array of diagnostic and surgical services.
Diagnosis
Our eye specialists at the Center for Ophthalmology perform more specific eye tests that include:
● Fluorescein Angiography allows a doctor to clearly see the blood vessels at the back of the eye.
● Electroretinography is used to examine the function of the light-sensing cells (photoreceptors) in the retina by measuring the response of the retina to flashes of light.
● Ultrasound is used to determine the nature of abnormal structures, such as a tumor or macular degeneration.
● Pachymetry or measuring the thickness of the cornea is very important in refractive eye surgery.
● Optical coherence tomography (OCT) provides high-resolution images of structures at the back of the eye, such as the optic nerve and retina.
● CT and MRI is used to provide detailed information about the structures inside the eye and the bony structure that surrounds the eye (the orbit).
Treatments
Treatments for eye and vision diseases are broadly categorized into refractive errors, age-related eye diseases, infectious and inflammatory diseases, traumatic injuries, and systemic diseases affecting the eyes.
Some of the common conditions treated by our ophthalmologists are as follows:
Refraction Errors
● Myopia (Nearsightedness) or a blurry view of far-away objects
● Hyperopia (Farsightedness) or difficulty seeing close objects
● Astigmatism or blurred vision caused due to irregularly shaped cornea
● Presbyopia or inability to focus on closer objects due to advanced age
Cataracts or clouding of the eye’s natural lens that may cause problems in vision and even blindness if left uncorrected. Cataracts are commonly caused due to aging. Our ophthalmologists commonly perform cataract surgeries regularly.
Glaucoma represents a group of eye diseases causing harm to the optic nerve due to unrelieved intraocular pressure (IOP). If not timely treated, glaucoma can lead to permanent vision loss. At Felix Hospital, we provide treatment for different types of glaucoma, including open-angle glaucoma, angle-closure glaucoma, and congenital glaucoma.
Macular Degeneration affects the central area of the retina, called the macula. The progressive loss of the central vision in AMD makes it difficult to read and recognize a human face.
Communicable Diseases such as conjunctivitis (Pink eye) is an infection caused by germs or viruses.
Squinting, also known as strabismus, is a very common phenomenon among children and is treated either with surgeries or correction lenses.
