Q Do I need to eat double during pregnancy for serving two people?

A For an average woman with normal weight, she needs only 300 calories extra for the baby’s growth. You do not have to eat double.

Q How much weight will I gain during my pregnancy term?

A On an average, a woman gains 25-35 lbs or 11-16 Kgs of total weight during her pregnancy.

Q Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy?

A It is recommended and absolutely safe to do some low to moderate exercise. Exercise like walking, swimming is considered safe and recommended.

One should avoid lifting heavyweights.

Q Can I drive during pregnancy?

A Driving is absolutely safe during pregnancy if you are comfortable. Try to avoid bumpy roads and sudden break.

Q Can you have sex when you are pregnant? Will it harm my baby if we have sex during pregnancy term?

A One can have sex during pregnancy but be careful of sexually transmitted infection. If the mother gets infections like Herpes, Genital Warts, or HIV, there are high chances that the same may get transmitted to the baby. It is advisable to check with the gynaecologist near you about having intercourse with your partner.

Q Can I fly during pregnancy? Is it safe to air-travel in pregnancy? What about the radiations generated through flying, Security scanners etc at the airport?

A Though flying is safe when you are pregnant. The radiation generated by security checks, scanners etc is in a very small amount and the exposure does not any damage. But is best to avoid long travelling during your term. Discuss with your gynaecologist before travelling.

Q Can I take over-the-counter medicine for cold, cough, fever, pain etc? Is it safe to take OTC medicines when pregnant?

A Do not self-medicate with available OTC medicine. It is advisable to always consult your gynaecologists.

Q What food items should be avoided during pregnancy?

A Avoid food which is acidic in nature, along with fast food, junk food, Chinese etc. Though you can fulfil your craving for pizza or fries once in a while.

Q What should I eat during pregnancy?

A You should follow a balanced healthy diet. Your body needs all the nutrients including vitamins, calcium, fibre, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals, folic acid etc.

Consume more of vegetables, fruits, Pulses (Daal), milk, nuts etc. You can consult your lady doctor for a detailed diet plan.

But the missing period is the first sign that you may be pregnant (if your period cycle is regular). You should see your female doctor/gynaecologist if you missed your period.
