Diarrhoea

Diarrhoea is a condition when one has loose or watery stools or frequent need to empty your bowel. There are two types of Diarrhoea – Acute and Chronic.

Acute Diarrhea is common and generally last for a couple of days. It can happen due to many reasons like a bacterial or viral infection, travel, food allergy etc

Chronic Diarrhea is severe and generally last for weeks. It usually occurs due to some intestinal disease.

Common Symptoms

Some of the common symptoms include-

  • Nausea
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Cramping
  • Bloating
  • Dehydration
  • Fever
  • Frequent urge to urinate
  • Watery stools

Causes

There could be many potential causes for Diarrhoea

  • Food intolerance like lactose intolerance
  • Any food allergy
  • Any infection – bacterial, viral, parasitic
  • Any Surgery is done for stomach or gall bladder
  • Environmental factors like air and water
  • Side Effects of Medicine
  • Travel

How to Prevent It

There are several reasons which can cause diarrhea and it is difficult to identify completely prevent it. There are a few precautions which can be taken to avoid it.

  • Wash your fruits and vegetables multiple times before cooking
  • Keep your food preparation area clean
  • Drink bottled water and cooked food when travelling
  • Wash your hands/use sanitizer frequently to avoid any bacterial/virus infection
