Dengue Fever

Dengue is a viral fever that is caused by the mosquito bite which leads to high fever, rashes and joint pain. The fever usually lasts for one to two weeks. Children under 10 years of age are at higher risk. Though it does not spread directly from one person to another and can be spread through an infected mosquito. It is advisable to keep your children away from the person infected with Dengue fever.

Common Symptoms

The symptoms can be seen or identified only after four to six days of infection. And they are sometimes mild, especially in children. Some of the common signs include.

  • Sudden and High Fever, more than 103 degrees
  • Severe headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rashes on the skin
  • Extreme tiredness all the time
  • Joint and Muscle pain
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Sometimes mild bleeding (nose, gums etc)

Causes

An infected Mosquito bite is the only cause for Dengue fever.

How to Prevent It

  • Use mosquito repellent
  • Keep your doors and windows closed
  • Keep your surroundings clean
  • Wear light coloured full sleeves shirts, full pants and socks when going outdoors
  • Get your child vaccinated
